About Training and Resources

Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Program offers a variety of services to support awareness and education of assistive technology statewide. Our team members provide periodic virtual training covering a variety of topics from assistive technology devices to do-it-yourself (DIY) assistive technology ideas and Q&A sessions to help guide your journey.

Training

In-person and virtual lectures and workshops are periodically offered to enhance the participant's knowledge of the Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Program services and various topics of assistive technology. To request training, contact our team.

ICT Services

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is a service offered through Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Program. This service includes an accessibility course, "Creating Accessible Documents," developed in collaboration with the University of Iowa Center for Excellence in Development Disabilities and University of Iowa Technology Services, as well as Website and PDF Accessibility Review services.

Resources provided by Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology are both informational and educational. Offerings can be downloaded, printed, or accessed online to further any level of understanding of assistive technology from beginner to advanced. Iowa Community HUB Statewide Resources

Professionals can learn more about fall prevention, review data, and learn more about the Falls Prevention Coalition. 

Individuals & Families can review risk assessments and health promotion resources.

Accessible Gaming and Alternative Access Devices

Easterseals Iowa has expanded our lending library by adding access to accessible gaming jellybean buttons for any individual who lives in Iowa and has a disability. Along with an expansion of these loanable devices, we will provide limited training for individuals with disabilities, and their families, on using the devices. Not certain what gaming system might work best for you, come to the Assistive Technology Center for a demonstration of one of these accessible gaming systems: Xbox OneNintendo SwitchWindows PC w/Oculus.

Vaccination Tips

Getting shots and vaccinations can be a frightening and anxiety-producing event for children with disabilities or special needs. There are simple devices that may help reduce pain, help calm or soothe the child, or divert the child’s attention. These devices are also effective for any type of injection or lab draw. These devices and more can be borrowed free of charge from our Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Lending Library. This project is partially funded through the Administration on Community Living, Expanding the Public Health Workforce within the Disability Networks.
